Prepare professional clothing: Make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the role, reflecting a professional and polished image. It’s always better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.

Do you offer Shadowing?

Internships, shadowing, and observation opportunities are often coordinated by the department itself, often during the interview process. This gives you a chance to understand the work environment firsthand, and it allows the department to assess how well you fit within their team.

If you're considering these opportunities, it’s good to ask about them during your interview or follow-up conversations to get more details on what they might involve.

Pre-Boarding Questions

How long does the physical screening take?

Appointments typically can run up to three hours, and you must stay in the facility for the entire duration until you are dismissed. Please do not exit the facility for any reason, as it may result in a refusal to complete the screening. To ensure quick processing when you arrive, it is important to have completed all required paperwork provided to you by the Pre-Boarding team and/or the facility managing your physical.

What is tested for during the physical screening?

The physical consists of a cursory physical exam, antibody titers for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB Surveillance/IGRA, and a urine drug screen. You will also need to provide documentation of your flu vaccination or request to receive one (note: this is only during flu season). CHKD requires all employees to receive the flu shot annually, unless approved for an exemption.

When will I receive details about my orientation?

All details regarding orientation will be sent to you via email the Thursday before your scheduled start date once cleared for your pre-employment screening. Orientation is mandatory for all new employees starting with CHKD. Dependent upon your position requirements, orientation can last up to four days.

What is the I-9? Is it required to complete?

All new employees must complete the I-9 process to verify employment eligibility. The day after you have accepted the offer of employment, you will receive a link from a Tracker Corp email to complete the process virtually (please be sure to check your spam or junk folders if the link does not come to your main inbox).

Once you access the link you will need to confirm your information as listed and make any updates as needed. You will then upload pictures of documentation to verify your identify and designate a representative who will act as an additional verifier of everything provided. This representative will then be sent a link from a Tracker Corp email to complete the verification process (they may also need to check their spam or junk folder if it does not appear in their main inbox). If you are unable to designate a representative, please reach out to Pre-Boarding@chkd.org to assist.
