Amy Sampson

Duties

  • Responsible for overseeing the overall strategic operations, financial outcomes, and legislative initiatives of the Health System.
  • Supports the strategic directions of the Children’s Health System Board of Directors.

Background

Amy Sampson takes the helm as President and CEO of CHKD Health System after years of leadership that spanned everything from communication to philanthropy to launching system-wide initiatives. 

She is known for her integrity, her management and business acumen, and her ability to reach out and engage the community, from government leaders to grassroots advocates to patient families.

Her inside knowledge of CHKD is vast: She joined CHKD in 1990 as director of public relations and has overseen strategic planning, government relations, marketing and communications, philanthropy services, community outreach, experience services, the donor milk bank, and volunteer services.

Sampson was instrumental in CHKD’s “Lighting the Way” campaign that galvanized the community to address the mental health crisis facing our youth. She spearheaded efforts for government approval and financial backing for CHKD’s new pediatric inpatient psychiatric facility, Children’s Pavilion.

Education

Sampson received her Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Communications Studies from the University of Virginia, where she was a Jefferson Scholar.
