Integrated Health Unit
General Inquiries
Located at the main hospital, the Integrated Health Unit at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is a unique, specialized seven-bed medical unit thoughtfully designed to provide an integrated, low-stimulation environment that supports recovery. Our team of highly trained registered nurses and mental health coaches work closely with your child’s treatment team to guide their recovery — addressing both mind and body.
Each patient room is designed to offer comfort, privacy, and a calming atmosphere to support emotional well-being and therapeutic engagement during medical care. The care team offers a structured and nurturing environment where patients build coping skills and practice mindfulness as part of their healing journey. Each day includes a planned schedule of activities that provide time for recovery, wellness, skill-building, and connection with others. Every patient's care is guided by an individual treatment plan developed by our clinical team to support their medical goals throughout their stay.
The unit is a component of CHKD's new mental health hospital and serves as a bridge for children between the acute care setting and their return home or to a mental health facility.
Supporting Healing Together
Our goal is to ensure your loved one receives compassionate, comprehensive care in a setting that promotes healing and stability. Each private room includes a specialized patient bed, an additional sleep surface for a caregiver, and a bathroom with a shower. These spaces are designed to offer comfort, privacy, and a calming atmosphere to support emotional well-being and therapeutic engagement.

Comfort and Belongings
Like other units in the hospital, our staff can provide hygiene and other personal items during your child’s stay.
Depending on their needs, the team may ask your child to wear hospital scrubs. If clothes from home are more appropriate, we recommend a t-shirt and long, comfortable pants.
Visiting with Care
For your convenience, coffee, water, ice, a microwave, and a refrigerator are available in the family lounge.
To ensure the safety and privacy of all patients, visitors are asked to ring the doorbell upon arrival. A staff member will greet you and escort you on and off the unit.
Our Commitment to You
Hospital stays can be challenging for both patients and families. At CHKD, our team provides compassionate care that supports healing and prepares your child for a smooth and confident transition — whether returning home or continuing care in another setting.
