CHKD Signs Contract with Epic
CHKD has taken the first step in its migration to Epic, signing the contract that will enable us to replace several distinct software platforms with a more cohesive, nimble data environment. “We’re making this transformational investment to best serve our patients, team members, providers, and the CHKD of the future,” says President and CEO Amy Sampson. “This patient-forward technology will streamline our families’ experience with CHKD, strengthen our clinical efforts, enhance communications, and deliver capabilities that will carry our mission forward in a rapidly changing environment.”
Our Information Services department is currently building the Epic team, which will begin advanced training this spring. The work to migrate our systems will start in June 2026 with a go-live estimated for late 2027. See our project timeline below.
Timeline:
Planning continues through Q2 CY 2026.
Staffing:
- Current I.S. staff will support the project.
- Additional staff will backfill day-to-day responsibilities to maintain operations.
Application Strategy:
- Epic 1st approach: If Epic provides the functionality, no third-party solution will be considered.
- Where third-party apps are required, consolidation to a single solution will be the goal.
Resource Management:
- Non-Epic projects will be managed to limit resource conflicts and reduce risk to the Epic timeline.
- Break/fix, patient safety, and required maintenance will remain top priorities.
