Duties

As Senior Vice President, Chief Clinical Operations Officer since late 2022, Dr. Foley oversees all patient care across CHKD Health System, which includes more than 600,000 patient visits annually at the hospital, outpatient services, and physician practices. In addition to his executive responsibilities, he continues to provide hands-on care for the region’s sickest children in CHKD’s pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), supporting both patients and care teams when needed.

Background

Dr. Foley has been a trusted clinician and advisor at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters for nearly 30 years. His previous leadership roles include serving as CHKD’s Chief Medical Officer for eight years, as well as medical director positions in the PICU, pharmacy, and critical care transport. Renowned for his calm demeanor and exceptional leadership, Dr. Foley is deeply respected for fostering a supportive and compassionate culture within CHKD, and for building strong bonds of trust among his colleagues.

Education

Dr. Foley graduated from Carleton College before attending the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his fellowship in pediatric critical care at Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

Before being named Chief Clinical Operations Officer in 2022, Dr. Foley served as a pediatric intensive care specialist, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care, and Medical Director of CHKD’s pediatric intensive care unit, pharmacy, and critical care transport. His contributions have had a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the countless patients under his care.
