NORFOLK, Va. – Costco stores in Norfolk and Newport News raised more than $115,000 for CHKD during its annual fundraising campaign this year, a record-breaking total for the membership club. A long-time CHKD supporter, Costco has donated more than $1.1 million to the health system since 1995 thanks to contributions from its customers, employees, and vendors American Family Insurance, Hershey, and General Mills.

“Every year, Costco employees go above and beyond to help support CHKD and our mission to provide health, healing and hope to all children,” said Kate Ryan, CHKD philanthropy officer. “We are incredibly grateful for their unwavering support to make sure children in our region have access to expert medical care close to their homes.”

Costco holds a fundraising campaign each year during the month of May. In addition to employees asking members at the register to help support CHKD, Costco also matches a portion of the funds raised. Every October, associates have the opportunity to support CHKD through Costco’s Workplace Giving Campaign.

Companywide, Costco has raised more than $4.5 million for Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises money for 170 children’s hospitals, which includes CHKD. All CMN donations benefit local member hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, and child life services, which help put kids’ and families’ minds at ease during difficult hospital stays.
