Bio

Franklin C. Margaron, M.D., is a Board Certified Pediatric and General Surgeon. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in 2005. He completed his surgical residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. During his research years in residency, Dr. Margaron traveled to Kijabe, Kenya, where he was a Pediatric Surgery Resident and a Research Resident serving underserved children at Bethany Kids at Kijabe Hospital between 2007 and 2008. In 2008 and 2009, he worked with the World Pediatric Project to build a system of telemedicine consultation and surgical care in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He completed his pediatric surgery fellowship at Riley Children’s Hospital through Indiana University in Indianapolis. 
            
Dr. Margaron has served active duty as a Pediatric Surgeon in the United States Navy since 2014, rising to the rank of Commander. During his service, he was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was the solo Staff Pediatric Surgeon for Tripler Army Medical Center and was awarded The Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary care of children. He also served as a Staff Pediatric Surgeon for the Kapiolani Women and Children’s Hospital in Honolulu and covered two telehealth networks for Pediatric Surgical care throughout the Pacific. He served aboard the USNS Mercy for Pacific Partnership 2016 and was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal for his work caring for children and teaching pediatric trauma and disaster preparedness.  

In 2017, he moved to Virginia and became Division Head of Pediatric Surgery at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where he served until 2022. While at NMCP, he also served as an Associate Program Director for General Surgery Residency, Chair of the Medical Ethics Committee for the hospital, Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee for the residency, Surgeon Champion for Pediatric NSQIP, and surgical representative for the Children’s Oncology Group. He also has been an Associate Professor of Surgery for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences winning the USUHS Chairman’s Award for Excellence in teaching Subspecialty Surgery in 2020. In addition, Dr. Margaron is a course director for Advanced Trauma Life Support and has taught medical and military ethics for Navy East Coast Leadership Development. He was recognized as a Top Pediatric Surgeon by America’s Best Doctors in 2022.  
           
Dr. Margaron joined Children’s Surgical Specialty Group – Pediatric Surgery in May 2022 as a general pediatric surgeon. He has been active with chest wall reconstruction and Nuss repair for children and active duty service members throughout his career. He is currently the surgical liaison for neonatal care and prenatal consultation, sitting on the executive board of the Fetal Diagnostic Center. Dr. Margaron also specializes in Robotic Surgery and is working to expand our capabilities for pediatric surgery with this exciting technology.
           
 Dr. Margaron is married and has three amazing children. He loves good music, traveling, hiking, and being active in the water: swimming, boating, diving and paddle boarding.
