Thank you for your interest in clinical shadowing at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). We are excited to support your exploration of pediatric medicine through our observation program. This unique experience offers a behind-the-scenes look at clinical care in action, helping individuals gain insight into the dynamic and rewarding world of pediatric healthcare. Designed for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in pediatrics, these experiences offer firsthand insight into patient care, clinical environments, and the roles of pediatric healthcare professionals.

CHKD offers shadowing experiences in both primary care pediatrics and a wide range of pediatric subspecialties, providing learners with a unique opportunity to observe clinical care in action and gain insight into the diverse roles within pediatric medicine.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in our Shadowing Program, individuals must be at least 18 years of age for most areas within our health system. This age requirement helps ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment for both our patients and participants.

Observer Expectations

1. Observation Only – Observers are not permitted to participate in patient care, perform procedures, or handle medical equipment. This experience is strictly observational.
2. Patient Privacy – Confidentiality is essential. Do not discuss patient information outside the clinical setting.
3. Professional Conduct – Dress appropriately, arrive on time, and follow all instructions from your assigned sponsor or coordinator.
4. Clinical Etiquette – No cellphone use, photography, or video recording is allowed in patient care areas.
