Now Offering Telehealth

CHKD Sports Medicine Physical Therapy is now offering telehealth services so that we may continue to provide high quality care to our patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are offering both evaluations and follow up visits.

During your child’s telehealth appointment, your CHKD physical therapy provider will discuss your current injury and medical history, perform an exam that will include observation, assessment of ROM, functional strength, movement patterns, balance, stability, and provide a treatment plan based on the findings of your evaluation. We will work with you and your child to establish a plan to help your child meet their goals and return to the sports and activities they love safely once everything returns to normal.

CHKD Sports Medicine Physical Therapy is excited to continue to engage our patients and provide excellent care via telehealth services. Please see our list of frequently asked questions regarding telehealth appointments and choose a provider from the drop down list below.

Why Choose CHKD?

Physical therapy can be the longest, hardest part of your child's recovery from a sports injury. The sports and orthopedic rehabilitation specialists at CHKD will provide personalized care that will make it easier for your child to continue with this important part of recovery.

The benefits of working with CHKD's sports medicine program are many:

  • We specialize in kids and understand the unique needs of child and adolescent athletes and tailor rehabilitation to meet the needs of children.
  • Unlike traditional facilities, at CHKD your child will be in rehab only with other children. This makes rehab more fun and engaging.
  • In addition to helping your child recover, they will learn injury prevention and performance enhancement exercises.
  • Your child will receive an individualized evaluation and a custom program.
  • We have a team approach to physical therapy. We will consult with you, physicians, coaches and trainers in order keep your child safe, healthy and strong.

What to Expect

  • Each visit to take approximately 45 to 60 minutes and we ask that your child arrive wearing comfortable clothes.
  • If your child is under the age of 14, a parent or guardian must remain in the gym or waiting area during the entire session. For children over the age of 14, a parent must attend the initial visit and then you may sign a waiver allowing us to treat your child in your absence.
  • During the first visit, the physical therapist (PT) will perform a physical therapy evaluation. The evaluation consists of asking several specific questions about the condition and the symptoms. Your input is often very helpful during this time.
  • Afterwards, the PT will perform a thorough examination, often including areas other than injury site in an effort to determine other factors that may have contributed to the condition. Physical therapy treatment often includes a combination of exercises and may include the use of heat, ice or massage.
  • During the following visits, the PT will review the exercises and add additional exercises and treatments as necessary to advance your child's recovery.
  • It's important that you work with your child to ensure they are doing all the exercises that have been prescribed to be done at home.

Physical therapy requires a physician referral. Please make sure you have the referral before you call to schedule an appointment and bring it with you to your appointment. If you do not have a referral, or if the referral you have is expired, your insurance may not pay for the services.
