Nutrition Clinics at CHKD
The nutrition services department offers individuals nutrition counseling and assessment for children with cancer and blood disorders. Dietitians help with food recommendations, weight management, and supplementations.
Through proper education and intervention, our dietitian provides support and resources for oral nutrition supplementation, enteral nutrition recommendations, vitamin and mineral supplementation, and hydration goals.
To guarantee continuity of care, our registered dietitian follows patients and families on an inpatient and outpatient basis and works with each patient and their CHKD care team to meet their specific nutritional needs.
Our registered dietitian can help with answering questions, navigating diets, and making sure that your child is receiving the best nutrition to match their treatment plan.
Adequate intake of calories, protein, salt, fat, and fat-soluble vitamins is crucial for lung growth and overall health for people living with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Insurance and Billing Information
We accept all major insurances, including Virginia Medicaid, Tricare, and Cardinal Health. Please take the time to understand how your insurance plan works, especially regarding annual deductibles and co-pays, which can affect your out-of-pocket costs.
Unless you have HMO insurance that requires a referral from a primary care physician, a referral is not required. You can simply call our office to make an appointment.
If your insurance does require a referral, make sure it has not expired and remember to bring it with you to the appointment.
Everyone should bring a government-issued photo ID and their insurance card to every medical appointment.
