About Our Surgery Program
When it comes to children, there’s no such thing as minor surgery. That's why Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters' unique pediatric surgery program is designed to make children and parents comfortable with the entire surgery experience.
Whether it’s an outpatient
ear, nose, and throat procedure or major
craniofacial reconstruction, safety guides every surgical decision from start to finish at CHKD.
That’s one reason why the American College of Surgeons (ACS) granted CHKD the highest level of certification for pediatric surgical care. As a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center, CHKD offers multiple medical and surgical specialties and performs for major congenital defects and complex diseases.
To receive this prestigious certification, the hospital’s surgical program, which includes the
main hospital in Norfolk and surgery centers at
Concert Drive in Virginia Beach and
Oyster Point in Newport News, met rigorous criteria for staffing, training, facility features, and protocols for care.
Robotic-Assisted Surgery at CHKD
Think of pediatric surgery and most of us imagine a surgeon maneuvering instruments through a large incision in the body. At CHKD, a less invasive way is on the rise: Inserting robotic instruments through much smaller incisions to perform surgery. Learn more about the new da Vinci surgical system at CHKD.
Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical Care
At our
main hospital in Norfolk, we provide inpatient and outpatient surgical care from the most complex surgeries to very minor outpatient procedures. We also offer outpatient procedures for patients by surgical specialists at our
Health and Surgery Center at Oyster Point in Newport News and our
Health and Surgery Center at Concert Drive in Virginia Beach.
Surgical Specialties
In addition to six surgical specialties --
cardiac surgery,
neurosurgery,
orthopedic surgery,
pediatric surgery,
plastic surgery and
urological surgery -- pediatric
ear, nose and throat surgeons and
eye surgeons also operate at CHKD.
Child-Centered Care
The pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses who provide care through CHKD's Surgical Program are committed to quality care and excellence in a child-centered environment.
