Our Fetal Care Center supports expectant families when concerns arise about a baby’s development during pregnancy by providing clear answers, compassionate care, and coordinated planning before and after birth.

At the Fetal Care Center, families are supported by a dedicated team of medical and surgical specialists working in close collaboration. This team may include maternal‑fetal medicine doctors, pediatric specialists, sonographers, neonatologists, nurses, genetic counselors, and social workers. Using advanced prenatal imaging and testing, the team helps identify a diagnosis and explains what it means in a way that families can understand.

We understand this can feel overwhelming, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. Alongside expert medical care, we’re here to provide steady and compassionate support. We encourage you to ask questions, share your concerns, and take the time you need to make the decisions that feel right for your family.

The Fetal Care Center partners closely with referring physicians and delivery hospitals to thoughtfully plan for your baby’s arrival. Often, babies can be delivered by their referring obstetrician at a hospital in their local community. When a condition requires specialized care at birth, delivery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital may be recommended to ensure immediate access to the appropriate experts and resources. Regardless of where your baby is born, our team remains a partner in your baby's care, helping coordinate treatment, provide support, and ensure seamless follow-up.
