Winter Illness Warning
When It’s a Real Emergency, Go Straight to the ER or call 911
Going to an Urgent Care Could Delay Needed Treatment!
If your child has any of the following symptoms, or they have been treated in an Emergency Department in the past 72 hours, they should be cared for in a hospital Emergency Department, not an Urgent Care.
— Difficulty Breathing. Look for any of these signs:
The chest wall draws inward toward the spine when inhaling.
Breathing rapidly, like you do after exercise.
Blueish tinge to lips.
Needing to use your child’s Asthma medicine more often than every 4 hours.
— Signs of significant dehydration, including no urination in the last 12 hours.
— Fever over 100.4 in a baby less than 60 days old.
— Severe allergic reaction requiring the use of an Epi-pen.
— Extreme tiredness/difficulty waking or staying alert.
— Any fall or head injury in which your child lost consciousness for any amount of time
Be Safe! When in doubt, call 911!

Urgent Care Just for Kids
Whether it’s a sudden illness or an on-field injury, our CHKD Urgent Care providers are ready to take care of your child.
CHKD Urgent Care centers are staffed by board-certified pediatricians, pediatric nurses, and pediatric-trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants who work all day, every day, with children. We take care of all kids, from birth to a child's 21st birthday, and offer X-ray and lab services on site.
We provide skilled, convenient, and affordable healthcare just for kids and teens. Walk-ins are welcome, but we encourage you to save time by checking wait times and saving your spot online before heading out. Most insurances are accepted.
If your child experiences a life-threatening emergency, call 911. But for everything else that can’t wait until tomorrow, turn to the experts at CHKD Urgent Care.

How long will I have to wait?
You may reserve your time to be seen. Walk-in patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and depending on the severity of their illness or injury. The number of patients coming to our urgent care center varies. We will do our best to see your child as soon as possible. Keep in mind, some children may need to be seen immediately and transferred to our emergency department while others may be waiting for lab tests or X-rays. Not everyone in the waiting room will be waiting to see an urgent care provider.

What if my child needs to see a specialist?
If your child is seriously ill or injured and our urgent care provider thinks your child needs to see a specialist that day, your child will be referred to the emergency department at our main hospital.
What if my child needs stitches?
We stitch most cuts. For more serious injuries, our urgent care providers can advise on whether or not your child's laceration would be best handled in the emergency department at our main hospital.
What if my child has a broken bone?
We can diagnose and splint most fractures, but do not have an orthopedic surgeon on staff at the urgent care center. Simple fractures will be splinted. Once the swelling decreases, your child will need to see one of our orthopedic surgeons in a few days for a cast. Our staff will inform you how to arrange a follow-up appointment with one of our orthopedic surgeons.
What if I cannot get to the urgent care center before it closes?
If you cannot make it during our open hours, please take your child to our emergency department at the main hospital.
